This is a case of a severe deep overbite. Before treatment, the patient presented with maxillary anterior crowding, a deep bite, and retroclined upper incisors that completely covered the lower anterior teeth, causing the lower incisal edges to impinge on the palatal mucosa.  If left untreated, this type of malocclusion can lead to severe long-term damage to the gums, teeth, and overall masticatory system.
